Fundraiser Updates

Why we’re doing this sponsored walk by Benjamin Morris

The Upbeats are a football team for people with Down Syndrome run by Charlton Athletic FC. They provide a wonderful environment to help adults and children develop physical, social skills, a sense of community and belonging and much more. The coaches are outstanding and really care about the team. They do not rely on council funding which would limit what they are able to do, including an age cap for the team and the players would all need to be from the borough of Greenwich. However, by funding this through people like you instead their goalkeeper is in his 50s I believe and people come from all over to play for the Upbeats team. They play matches against other Down Syndrome football teams across the country including Ireland. They also provide social outings with this money including a trip to Ministry of Sound, WWF, golfing and cricket days and many more. This provides respite for parents and carers but also empowers our adults with down syndrome and gives them such wonderful life opportunities and a sense of respect for each other and community. Benjamin is a very skilled football player and even played the Charlton men’s first team recently with his adult peers with down syndrome. I can see him playing for the adult Upbeats team in the future and doing really well. So your donation is directly impacting our wonderful son‘s future and I really appreciate this ❤️
